Buncee for Halloween

Buncee is a fantastic and simple tool to use for education.  Educators are using it for project based learning, digital storytelling, announcements, digital cards, and much much more.  A great way to use it is for holiday projects such as Halloween.  Buncee, has lots of free resources for educators (lesson plans, i.e. ideas lab), as well as state of the art clip-art, animations, backgrounds, etc.

15 Sites for Finding Images and Clip Art for Education

A while back I did a top 10 sites for finding images and clip art for education.  However, a lot of things have changed since then and a few of those sites no longer exist.  That being said a handful of new and exciting sites have been developed for education for finding images which led me to creating a new list.

*Keep in mind when searching for images for students it is always a good idea to have adult supervision/filtering solution.

1. 3D Toad - A innovative site w/ interactive 360 degree rotatable images.
2. Behold - A nice search engine to use w/ adult supervision for finding images on Flickr.
3. Find Icons - A great site for finding free icons to use in the classroom.
4. FreeFoto - A wonderful site for 1000's of free photos that can be used by students.
5. FreePhotoBank - A excellent site for free stock photos.
6. Google Images - A great way to search for images as long as the safe search filter is turned on.
7. humanline - A new site for teachers and students for free images for: art, history, science, etc.
8. ookaboo - A great way to search for free stock photos on a wide variety of subjects.
9. OpenClipArt - A nice site for free clip art.

Pictotool

Pictotool is a new (beta) site for creating pictograms and stickers.  All a user has to do is select a image, add some text, and then choose what colors to use.  Once that is done a picture can be generated and downloaded to a computer, inserted into a blog, or shared via a social networking site.

Image After

Image After is a site I just found out about from Free Technology 4 Teachers and it is a nice site for finding free images & clip art. There is a lot to this site such as images, textures and extra goodies to search for.

Top 10 Sites for Images and Clip Art

Finding images on the internet for educators to use has been a common problem problem for many alike. This can happen for a number of reason such as: copy right privileges, inappropriateness, etc etc.

While there are a number of paid solutions for finding images such as Nettrekker or Discovery Streaming, there are a number of free alternatives that work nicely as well.

However, keep in mind that most of the sites listed below do not have built in filters for images. These image search engines should be used either by educators (adults assisting students) or go in hand in hand w/ a school district filtering solution and Acceptable Use Policy.

1. Pics4Learning - A very popular site to find free safe to use images for teachers and students.
2. Cyclo.ps - A search engine that searches the most popular free image engines around and provides a nice one stop shopping of sorts.
3. School Clip Art - A great site for free school clip art.
4. Ookaboo - A nice creative commons (free) site for finding great images for class work.
5. Picsearch - Excellent image search engine if used w/ a district's filtering solution.
6. Veezzle - A wonderful free stock photo search engine.
7. Google Swirl - An innovative way to search for images and see their relationships w/ each other (use w/ Google Safe Search enabled).
8. Free Photo Bank - An easy way to find creative common images.
9. Open Clip Art - A great way to find free clip art to use.
10. Find Icons - A nice site for free icons.

School Clip Art

School Clip Art is a great search engine for finding clip art for education/students.

Open Clip Art Library is a site I just found out about from Richard Byrne's excellent blog. This is one of the best sites around for finding clip art on any number of subjects.

Open Clip Art is a great search engine for clip art that I found out about from Alexandra Fransisco. Since users can upload the clip art I doubt there is any filtering going on. However, if used appropriately I think OCA can be a great site for students.
