picture.of.a

picture.of.a is a wonderful new site I found out about from Larry Ferlazzo's blog. This is a search engine designed to find free pictures.

While I don't think there is any filtering going on, I haven't come across any inappropriate pics so far.

Troovi

Troovi is a excellent site for photo sharing that is very easy to use. All a user has to do is upload their photos and then share the generated URL. Others can then add photos to the collection through that URL.

I highly recommend giving Troovi a try by clicking here!!

TinEye

TinEye is a new (beta) reverse search engine. What that means is a person uploads an image and then finds out various information such as, how it's being used, where it came from, etc.

Below is an example on using the 7-11 logo...

Fotobabble

Fotobabble is a fun new site I learned about from Alex Fransisco's blog. This is a place where user's upload their photo and then record their voice to it. After that, you can either set it to public and private and then embed it into your site.

Cyclo.ps

Cyclo.ps is a new (beta) search engine for finding royalty free stock photos. While this is nothing new for these type of search engine you do have the ability to control which "browsers" it searches through.

Another nice feature is the ability to register for an account (free) and then collect and tag your images.

Below is a pic from the search results on the term, technology integration...

PhotoCabine

PhotoCabine is a site I looked at so long ago I can hardly remember, but was pleasantly reminded about it by Jeff Johnson/Tim Holt. This is a fun little site where a user clicks on a picture of a photo booth and relives the actual experience (from dropping in a coin to take multiple pictures).

Finally, when the pictures are done you can: save, print, or share your photos via a link. One thing to consider is this site is in French but still user friendly enough to use that it won't matter. I think Middle School kids would have a blast w/ this site, as long as they use it appropriately.

Picjoke

Picjoke is a site I learned about from one of my new favorite blogs, Life Feast. This is a site where you can have fun w/ photos by uploading them into entertaining templates. There are many sites that do this, but Pickjoke is one of the better ones as they are always adding new effects daily.

ImageEnlarger

ImageEnlarger is a free app for enlarging pictures but w/out that pixelated look. Have you ever imported a picture into an app (word/web), only to have it get real "grainy" as you enlarged it? If so, then this the application for you.

IE is is simple to use. Download it, launch and import your photo. There will be two windows the one on the left shows the pixlated verison, and the one on the right shows the preview on how your image will look. You can also tweak some settings and crop the picture to zoom in exactly to a specific part.

Pho.to

Pho.to is a new and exciting site for posting pictures/albums online. All you have to do is create an account, upload some photos, and edit your settings and you are all set.

Also, you can create some amazing looking animations, slide shows, and avatars w/ Pho.to. There is so much you can do w/ this user friendly site. Plus, you can generate links or html code to embed in your site/blog.

I highly recommend giving Pho.to a try by clicking here.

DISCLAIMER - after a review from one of my readers, it appears that Pho.to is not school appropriate for kids, inappropriate content was found (w/ no filtering/moderation before posting). As w/ any site/application I recommend sticking to ones that have "educational" portals which eliminate this problem, such as Glogster, Strutta, Myths & Legends, etc.

Below is my album widget example...

Photovisi vs Fotonea

Photovisi and Fotonea are sites where you can create online collages. Both are very good and easy to use and pretty much do the same thing. However, if being able to customize your collage is your "cup of tea" you might want to go w/ Fotonea.

Fotonea, has more options then Photovisi. Once you upload your pictures from either your desktop or Flickr, you can edit your photos, add text, or even add extra objects/speech bubbles.

Photovisi is a bit more limited in once you customize your collages after uploading the photos you can't edit it when the collage is assembled.

Below are my two examples:
