Infogr.am

Infogr.am is a new (beta) site that I just found out about from Free Technology 4 Teachers.  This is a great site for making an online interactive chart, such as a: pie, bar, matrix, or line.  These charts are easy to setup and a user can even import an .xls file.  Best of all these charts can be embedded into a site/blog.  Infographics are soon to come.

I highly recommend checking out Infogr.am by clicking here!!

Top 10 Sites for Creating a Chart or Graph

Charts and Graphs are an effective tool when trying to convey information in a simple and visual way. Also, it is a great way to track trends and help explain complex datasets. This is something that has been used in the business world and education on a everyday basis.  With that, I decided to list my top favorite sites for creating a chart or graph.

Top 10 Sites for Creating a Chart or Graph

  1. Rich Chart Live - An excellent site for created animated flash based charts that can be embedded into a site.  Also, a user has the ability to add links to a chart.
  2. iCharts - Is a wonderful site/network for creating charts that you can embed into a site.  Also, a user can share charts on social networking sites and browse/save other iCharts from the web.
  3. Chartle - A great site for creating online interactive charts.  What makes Chartle so unique and impressive is the ability to create more then your standard graphs such as: venn diagrams, maps, gauges, etc.
  4. Hohli - A very user friendly site to use that is similar to Chartle.  A user can create a variety of different types of charts such as: pie, scatter plots, and radar, then embed them into a site.

Create Debate

Create Debate is a site for creating a debate and then having people vote (a la poll) on any number of topics. The results are then displayed in a graph type form as well as reading the comments left by other people.

I have a feeling this is something I could use for the Edtech group on Educator's PLN Ning community.

Pretty Graph

Pretty Graph is a new (beta) site for creating beautiful looking charts. It is very similar to Widgenie or Rich Chart Live, where it is very easy to make excellent looking graphs!!

What makes PG really nice is the ability to choose from different styles of graphs: bar, line, heat, pie, etc. and then either print it out or email it to other users.

Below is an example of a scatter plot graph...

ChartGo

ChartGo is a site I learned about from Larry Ferlazzo and is one of many for creating online graphs. There are many sites that do the same thing, but if you want something simple w/out all the "bells & whistles" then ChartGo is the place for you.

To get started is simple just click on chart info and enter the data of your graph. After that you can click create graph or go back to the main screen to determine the type of graph you want (by default it is pie). Once the graph is created you have the option to print, save, or link.

What I wish CG did better was allow users to import data such as Excel (or xls). Also, to really make an impact I would've added some subtle flash effects" that other sites such as Widgenie or Rich Chart Live.

Widgenie

Widgenie is a great new (beta) site for creating graphs/charts. It is very similar to Lovely Charts or Rich Chart Live. While I think the latter are both great sites, Widgenie happens to be my favorite because it is very user friendly and creates some very nice looking graphs. (RCL is a close close second).

What makes Widgenie such an attractive option for education is the ability to upload any: Excel, csv, Google Spreadsheet, etc file. This pretty much covers the gambit for any spreadsheet. Also, once the file is uploaded you can edit it to get the exact look/feel you want. For example, you can choose an animated pie chart, bar graph, or even text cloud. Plus, you can edit all the fields via the drag/drop user interface. This really is ideal for the average user.

Finally, once you are finished w/ your graph you can create a link, which lets users share your embed code, or you can just embed it into your own site.

Below is an example I made for a "Heat" graph...

Geek Chart

Geek Chart is a new site which visually tracks your usages on social networking sites. This is done in a pie chart format and covers: Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, Blogger, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc.

Here is a bit more from their site, "Geek Chart shows the last 30 days of your activity on these social websites. If you haven't been active on these sites within the last 30 days, your actvity won't show on the chart."

Also, GC (for registered users) gives you an embed code so you can embed the chart into your blog/site. Plus, it updates automatically as you continue to use these social networking sites!!

Below is a pic of a simple Geek Chart...

Rich Chart Live

RCL is a great new site where you can create animated/flash based charts. What separates this online tool from others is its simple user interface and it's unique interactive design.

I just created a graph on here and it took me less then 5 minutes. Plus, it has a feature to import existing data, so if you have an excel spreadsheet you can easily upload it too. Another great feature is the ability to either export to Flash/PP or your blog/website. To top it all off this site is totally free (special cases may require a subscription).

For more info click here.

RCL example (I love the links you can create)...
