Wakelet

Wakelet is an excellent social bookmarking tool that I just found out about from the amazing educator, Ana Lopez.  Wakelet lets educators easily bookmark any item on the web (i.e. article, blog, tweet, etc) and then curate them in stunning visual ways (add an image) to curate w/ others.  Teachers can use this in a wide variety of ways such as: digital storytelling, project based learning, professional development, and more.  Best of all, there is a free detailed Educator's Guide to help teachers integrate Wakelet into their curriculum.

I highly recommend checking out Wakelet by clicking here!!!

Symbaloo Lessonplans

Symbaloo Lessonplans is the new feature from the ultra-popular bookmarking site for education, SymbalooEDU.  This lesson plan creator lets educators create interactive lessons similar to the game
based style that is found in most mobile app games.  The lessons can contain text, video, audio, interactive elements, and even questions/quizzes/polls.  Best of all, the teacher gets real-time data for assessing students that helps them differentiate instruction.  This is great for students so they can learn at their own pace and level.

I highly recommend checking out Symbaloo Lessonplans by clicking here!!!

Been for Education

Been for Education is one of my favorite new Web 2.0 sites for Social Learning & Bookmarking.  This is a innovative site that combines the the bookmarking abilities of Diigo w/ a visual interface similar to MentorMob to create a innovative experience to browse the web.  Best of all, this is all done in a protective "bubble" w/ Been's educational portal that allows educators to create/manage student accounts.  Educators are using Been in wide variety of ways such as: guided learning, web scavenger hunts, introducing a topic, research, flipping a lesson, and more.

I highly recommend checking out Been for Education by clicking here!!!

Also, if you're going to be attending ISTE be sure to visit them here.

Been for Education

Been for Education is one of my new favorite Web 2.0 sites for collaborative browsing and bookmarking the web in a safe environment.  The way this works is educators create, manage, and monitor the student accounts while the "guide" learning by browsing the web and collaborating in real-time.  This is all done through an easy to use interface and browser extension and is ideal for researching/introducing a topic, guided learning, and much much more.

I highly recommend checking out Been for Education by clicking here!!!

Been for Education

Been the innovative site for visually bookmarking a site and collaborating has just launched a educational portal that makes it perfect for educators to use w/ their class.  This free web tool is not only ideal for social bookmarking in schools but real-time collaborative web browsing as well.  Been's new web portal now allows for educators to create student accounts, and communicate w/ them in real-time while bookmarking/browsing the web.

This is ideal for Guided Learning, Flipping a Classroom, Project Based Learning, and can be used by any subject or curriculum.  Educators can use it to create internet scavenger hunts, to research/introduce a topic, or any other number of possibilities.

The educator account is perfect for moderating student's Beens (bookmarks/collections), comments, resetting passwords, etc.  Being "housed" inside of an educational portal allows for educators to see public Beens but only allows for students to see those of their teacher.  Teachers can also collaborate w/ their peers to allow for collective Beens that can be use for group projects.

Finally, the ability to collaboratively surf the web when being on the same page allows for students/educators to share comments and surf together to guide instruction.  Also, educators can assess students who have questions when surfing the web or researching a topic.

I highly recommend checking out Been for Education by clicking here!!!

Been

Been is a new site for social bookmarking that has to be seen to be believed.  This is a beautiful looking site that installs a plugin that allows people to bookmark sites in a visual way.  It kind of reminds me of Pinterest in that respect but w/ an element of social networking.  Been allows users to collaborate and comment/invite others to join their collections.  This aspect of Been is ideal for educators who want to share or receive sites from students and then comment on them.

I highly recommend checking out Been by clicking here!!!

Shareor

Shareor is a nice site for social bookmarking that I just found out from Free Technology 4 Teachers. This site is very similar to Pinterest and a nice way to curate the web for educators.  It allows teachers to pin sites to sites, links, videos, etc to boards as well as leave comments (Pinterest anyone?).  The social networking aspect is nice to allow educators to collaborate as well as create and find lesson plans.

I highly recommend checking out Shareor by clicking here!!!

Web 2.0- SymbalooEDU

Well, I've been having some fun transporting my web 2.0 list over to SymbalooEDU.  This is a great site for educators to share websites via a descriptive thumbnail.  My only wish is to be able to edit/delete/replace the Google search box in the middle on my "webmix".

To create your own "webmix" on SymbalooEDU click here!!

Bag the Web

Bag the Web is a great site for curating the web and then sharing it w/ others.  This is done by collecting links, videos, presentations, and then adding them to your "bag".  These bags can then be shared w/ others,  linked together, or even embedded into a site.  Best of all, Bag the Web has an educational portal for finding and sharing educational content.

I highly recommend checking out Bag the Web by clicking here!!

Scholar

Scholar is a site for social bookmarking. While it does provide nice features for tagging and sharing links. It's not as visually appealing as some of the other popular social bookmarking sites.

I recommend checking out Scholar by clicking here.

BO.LT

BO.LT is a wonderful site for tagging/recommend websites. This is done w/ a very easy to use innovative interface that allows user to create "bo.lt" page by copy and pasting a URL. That is all a user has to do. They are then given a unique URL that can be shared w/ others. This new page will have a bo.lt icon which allows people to leave comments or share via Facebook or Twitter. Also, there are a bunch of nice shortcuts that users can do for tracking or shortening URL's.

I highly highly recommend checking out BO.LT by clicking here!!

For an example a page that has been bo.lted click here.

BooNote

BooNote is a free easy to use service for bookmarking. As w/ other bookmarking sites this site lets you organize your sites and even add notes. While not as robust as some other sites such as Diigo and iCyte I do think this is a nice site for beginners.

I recommend checking out BooNote by clicking here!

Thanks to Free Technology 4 Teachers for the tip!!

SymbalooEdu

SymbalooEdu is a wonderful site that I just found out about from Kelley Tenkley's amazing blog, iLearn Technology. Symbaloo is ideal for educators to share links w/ students. This is done by creating an environment of sites that educators find and then share w/ their students (similar to the way it is in done in Diigo). Also, a ton of resources and videos can be found on here to help teach educators how to use this social bookmarking tool.

I highly recommend checking out SymbalooEdu by clicking here!!

I Spot a Story

I Spot a Story is an interesting site for bookmarking/sharing interesting stories from around the web. However, it is much more then just social bookmarking it is a place where people can collaborate on the same stories. This is done via uploading a story or contributing to ones that are already there to gather different view points.

I recommend giving I Spot a Story a try by clicking here!

Thanks to Larry Ferlazzo for the tip!!

School Noodle

School Noodle is a new (beta) site for social bookmarking similar to Delicious or Diigo. However, SN is really the only bookmarking site specifically designed for teachers. For example, the information online is provided and rated by teachers. While this limits them on the amount of information available to their users, it does provide service to a "specific" genre.

Another feature which I find useful is that each site is linked to a corresponding state standard. This is great for teachers that want to abide by specific criteria.

If I had to go w/ one bookmarking site for staff/students I'd have to say Diigo, but for those looking for another free option, I highly recommend giving School Noodle a look.
