NBA Math Hoops

NBA Math Hoops is a super-fun free mobile (iOS/Android) app that helps students strengthen their Math skills while building their fantasy basketball team.  Best of all, Math Hoops uses actual NBA stats that lets students create their "dream" teams then play a game of basketball.  The way this works, right answers
scores points/baskets while wrongs answers become a turn over.   Also, there is a NBA Hoops Skills & Drills which is ideal for students working on their basic Math skills, such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and more.

Top 15 Educational Sites/Apps of 2021

It's that time of year for to list my favorite sites/apps of the year.  This years list has quite the variety and covers a wide range of educational content, such as: game based learning, programming/coding, educational resources, and more.  As in previous annual end of the year lists, any site/app listed before will not be listed here.

Top 15 Educational Sites/Apps of 2021

  1. BookWidgets - BookWidgets is a fantastic that lets teachers become "paperless' and create interactive quizzes/games that can automatically be graded.  This is all done through an educational portal making it easy to assess student learning and differentiate instruction.
  2. CodePen - CodePen is an innovative site that is ideal for teaching students how to program/code.  This is a great way to integrate STEM into the classroom as well as monitor student's progress in real-time.
  3. Thinkio - A great learning tool for educators to make interactive worksheets/lessons online.
  4. SplashLearn - A super-fun, easy-to-use online Math platform for grades K-5.  SplashLearn uses "game based learning" to teach a wide range of subject.  Finally, the educational portal makes it easy for teachers to track and manage student accounts.
  5. GamiLab - A excellent to create and play educational games while assessing student's learning.
  6. BombBomb - A useful site that makes it easy for teachers to create "free' video emails to students and parents.
  7. Blackbird - One of my favorite sites for students to learn how to program/code in an educational environment.
  8. Edform - A wonderful site that turns worksheets into interactive graded assignments.  Also, these graded worksheets can generate a detailed report making it easy to assess student learning.
  9. WisdomMaps - An innovative site uses "mind maps" to teach history and humanities.
  10. edu-pal - A nice Chrome extension that lets users create polls/quizzes in Google Meet, while users respond in real-time.
  11. Pedagogue - A fantastic new social network where educators can collaborate and find educational resources.
  12. Tract - An interesting new site where students collaborate w/ their peers to learn about different topics.
  13. Brainstormer Online - A new "spin" on brainstorming where users create and then vote on their favorite brainstorm to use.
  14. Peanuts in the Classroom- A fun site for educational resources for ages 4-13.
  15. Ducksters - a nice safe friendly search engine for students.

Chronicle Cloud

Chronicle Cloud is a wonderful mobile (iOS/Google Play) app that makes it easy for teachers to assess
student learning, differentiate instruction, and maximize their best teaching "strategies".  This is all done through a wonderfully designed and easy-to-use app where teachers have a number of the best features from Learning Management Systems, such as: creating classes/assessments, manage/tracking students, grading, exporting/importing data, and much more.  Best of all, educators can "fine-tune" their note-taking and add comments or audio notes to all data kinds of data.

Solitaired

Solitaired is a fun educational spin on the classic card game solitaire.  All a user has to do is select the educational deck they'd like to use and that's it.  There are lots of different decks that have pictures as well as educational facts covering topics such as: historical figures, astronauts in space, and more.

Multifly

Multifly is an innovative free iOS app designed for grades 2nd-4th to help students develop their multiplication skills.  This is done through a super fun platform game that features over 50 puzzles for students to solve.  These puzzles are designed to strengthen students in multiplication using 7+ different strategies.  As the students progress further in the game the story evolves through a digital comic.

30hands Pro is the excellent iOS app for project based learning, flipping a classroom, and digital storytelling.  Educators are using 30hands to integrate technology in a easy and seamless way.

• New Features in Pro:
— Enhanced Drawing with Editing, Adding Images to canvas, Layering Images, more! (Basic Drawing is still there, too)
— Share-a-Slide to create a single slide video
— Stop Motion is easier with settings and Enhanced Drawing
— Storyboarding is faster and easier
• New icons from Font Awesome and ION
• added support for iOS 9
• fixed some bugs

• Pro has 2 Drawing Modes: Enhanced and Basic
— Enhanced Drawing is vector based which is huge!
— Add images + photos to a drawing
— Edit a drawing after saving
— Drawing lines are crisper
— Text can be on multiple lines
— Resized and stretched text can still be edited!
• Pro has Share-a-Slide to create a single slide video
— Share a single narrated drawing or image to parents, teachers or friends
— Share-a-Slide allows for better collaboration
— Add video slides from multiple students into a central presentation
• Pro has easy Stop Motion settings
— Stop Motion slides can be within a normal presentation

Microsoft Math

 

Microsoft Math is an excellent free mobile (iOS/Google Play) app for all things Math grades K-12.  All a user had to do is scan, type, or draw a math problem to get a answer and other results.  Also, Microsoft Math generates detail step-by-step instructions on how to solve the problem, videos, graphs, and more.  Finally, Microsoft Math lets teachers create printable Math worksheets for their students to use.

Rabbids Coding






Rabbids Coding is a super-fun iOS app that uses the popular Rabbids characters to teach kids the basics of how to program/code (ideal for 7yrs old on up).  This is done by uses lines of code where students use sequential and computational thinking to help save "their" spaceship that the Rabbits had invaded.

Zapzapmath for Remote Learning

*Zapzapmath School Premium is due to the pandemic is now completely free for all students.  This means parents can track their kids progress in over 180 Math games ranging in a wide range of topics.

Zapzapmath is an excellent site/mobile (iOS/Android) app for Math grades K-6th.  ZZM focuses on a lot different topics such as: addition/subtraction, multiplication, geometry, and more.  All of this is done in a fun game based learning environment.  Best of all, the school version tracks student progress, generates detailed reports, and makes it easy to differentiate instruction.

Hatch

Hatch is a wonderful educational iOS app that combines game based learning w/ studying/reading/homework to help increase a student's love of learning.  The way this works is once Hatch is launched a student selects between 5 - 120 min to read/study/homework.  As the student stays in the app "working" they gain "focus energy".  This energy is in-game currency that students use to unlock/hatch a creature.  Any session that lasts more 25 min or more guarantees them a "rare' species.  Hatch kind of reminds me of a Pokemon Go w/ out the searching for Pokemon but hatching as many creatures as you can.

Noisy Book

Noisy Book is a wonderful new innovative iOS app for kids.  Noisy Book works by supplying sound effects to a book by processing what is read (i.e. adding a horn honking to a car).  Also, a user can create their own story and add sound effects for a fun way to incorporate digital storytelling.  Best of all, Noisy Book understands what is being read and creates an educational quiz for the main parts of a story to gauge understanding/comprehension.

VocaTales

VocaTales is an innovative new way for students to learn Vocabulary and the definition of words.  This is done using a unique "gamified" experience called "split and spin".  A user takes any word they are trying to learn splits it up and then spins a new story.  In a way, VocaTales is like a combination of game based learning meets digital storytelling inside of a social network.  Once a new tale/definition is completed a user can share w/ others, comment, and even extend on the story.
