TeacherCast is a Learning Community designed by teachers for teachers.  This is a nice place to find blogs, reviews, resources, lesson plans, and more.  This is also a nice site for those that use mobile technology w/ lots of educational app reviews too.

Know New Ideas

Know New Ideas is a new learning community that I just found out about.  This is a place where new and big ideas are generated for transforming education.  Like most social networks educators can collaborate and share ideas, digital lesson plans, Q/A, and more.  Also, this is a nice place for getting professional learning help and ideas.

Teachability

Teachability is a learning community for educators for sharing: resources, lessons, advice, and more.  There are lots of different communities/groups to join to collaborate on a number of different topics.  As typical w/ any message/forum setup, teachers can pose questions to receive a variety of responses.

Power My Learning

Power My Learning is a wonderful learning community w/ lots of resources, tools, and activities for students/parents/educators.  Teachers can come here to curate the web and create playlists to share w/ their students.  Also, teachers can create lesson plans as well as track student activity.  Students will love all the educational games, videos, and activities that are for grades levels  K-12.

Every1Speaks

Every1Speaks is a learning community that I just found out about that helps students learn though collaborative enquiry based learning.  This is done in an innovative way through the use of visually engaging idea maps, through collaboration (a la Idea Synergy), and more.  Plus, more features are still to come such as mobility for all devices.

edSurge

edSurge is a new (beta) community that is quite terrific.  This is a place where educators can collaborate, keep up to date on educational technology and more.  There is a wonderful product report which breaks down which application is best.  There are lots of educational topics and news articles to choose from as well as wonderful free newsletter that people can sign up for.

ShowMe

ShowMe is a wonderful online community that I just found out about from a guest blogger on, Free Technology 4 Teaching.  "ShowMe's" are lessons that are created on a free iPad app that acts as an interactive whiteboard.  These lessons can then be viewed/shared/embedded on the ShowMe online community.

Tapped In

Tapped In is an ambitious site that I just found out about from the excellent blog, Educational Technology Guy.  This is a learning community designed for educators, administrators, students, etc to come together to share and collaborate on resources and ideas.  Tapped In kind of reminds me of Second Life w/out the whole virtual world thing going on.  It is a place where people come together in a "virtual" building (think 16 bit graphics) to learn, share, communicate, chat, discuss what have you.

19 Pencils

19 Pencils is a site that I briefly reviewed a few months back and listed as one of my Top 100 Sites of 2011.  Through some collaboration I've decided to revisit this site and check out all the "bells and whistles" 19 Pencils has to offer.  After giving it a thorough run through my first impression is, WOW.  This site has it all, and Kelly Tenkley of iLearn Technology said it best when she said, "This is a fantastically easy site to use!"

The first thing a teacher will notice when logging in are the abundance of tools that can be found in the online dashboard.  This is the "control center" for the educator where they can create: quizzes, a class website, track student progress and more.  All this is done in a very user friendly visually appealing way.

• Quizzes - are offered as a multiple choice type question w/ one or more answers.  This is very easy to do and is built around a "flash card" style system.  Also, a teacher can track student progress on a quiz in the "my class" tab.
• Class Website - Another great feature is the ability to create a class website which displays assignments, pre-approved websites (in an innovative thumbnail view w/ a summary), or quizzes.  Also, a teacher can embed a badge/link into their own website for easy navigation to their educational 19 Pencil's portal.
• Playground - This is a unique and sleek place where students can collaborate w/ their teacher in a chat window while still being logged into their "class view".

What makes 19 Pencils so great is that everything is being "housed" inside of 19 Pencils.  What this means is that any website that a teacher decided to put up on their class pages is inside a frame w/ 19 pencils border and tools surrounding it.  Also, this site is being filtered which is ideal for CIPPA and COPPA compliance.  Finally, a user can search through 19 Pencils for other educational content to share and collaborate on.

Bloust

Bloust is a social networking site designed for educators to create web pages and engage w/ students in a safe online community.  This is really a great place for students and teachers to interact w/ other colleagues and students and reminds me a little bit of Moodle.

Clivir

Cilivir is a nice online learning community. While not specifically designed for education, it is designed for people to share/collaborate on any number of topics and find best solutions to problems. There is a category for computers & technology which does offer some nice tutorials on issues/products.
