When In Time

When In Time is a nice simple site for creating timelines.  Once a user registers they have the option to name/create a timeline by adding, text, photos, and video.  What's nice any "event" in the timline is clickable which allows viewers to find out more specific information.  Also, a creator of a timeline has the ability to make it public or private and select who if anybody has the rights to edit it.  My only concern is I don't know if there is the ability to embed these timelines into a site or if they are only viewable on the web via a URL.

Weaving History

Weaving History is a new (beta) site that is great for making timelines based on history. This is done by matching "factlets" and "threads" and linking them to maps. Factlets are people, places or things and threads are factlets that are strung together. Once you start making a timeline you'll begin to understand.

Below is a pic of a Napolean timeline...

Tiki-Toki

Tiki-Toki is a wonderful new web app for creating timelines. While this is a paid service (premium @ gold accounts) there is also a free account which is ideal for testing out or for having students create one timeline.

There are plenty of great features that make Tiki-Toki such an attractive option for users such as: very user frienly (think Capzules), the ability to add videos (via Vimeo/YouTube) and photos (via Flickr), editing background picture, etc etc.

I highly recommend checking out Tiki-Toki by clicking here!!!

VidScan

VidScan is an impressive new site that shows Timelines of YouTube videos. The way this is done is by breaking down segments of the videos by comments to help users figure out which parts of the video to leave out. Keep in mind not all YouTube video has timeline snippets.

Preceden is a new (beta) site for creating simple timelines. While Preceden is not the most robust (lacks the ability to add media) of the web timeline creators it is one the easiest to use. Also, it has the ability to create more then one timeline in the same line, this is a nice feature.

Bee Docs Timeline

Bee Docs Timeline is an application that has been around for awhile. It is designed to create stunning looking 2D/3D timelines for Mac OS 10.5. This happens to be one of my favorite Leopard apps out there.

What makes BD so great is how easy it is to use...just download that app (free trial) and you are all set to go ($40.00). You can then either create a timeline from scratch or import it from any number of Apple apps such as iCal, Skitch, iPhoto, etc. Any application that handles photos can be imported into Bee Docs.

Also, BD is great at sharing timelines via, email, Quicktime, Keynote, or any mobile device. This really is cutting edge software.

Download Bee Docs Timeline by clicking here.

Below is my sample timeline using the import feature on my blog...
