Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2014

Well, it's that time of year again for my favorite and most robust list on the top 100 Sites/Apps of the year.  As w/ the previous year's list, more and more mobile apps are making the list as mobile learning continues to be the rising trend in education.  However, that's not to say that there isn't a good amount of websites and Learning Management Systems showing up as well.  Finally, any site/app that was in a previous years list will not be in this one.

Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2014

  1. Been for Education - A innovative site for Social Learning that allows educators to surf and collaborate on the web w/ their students in a safe environment where educators create/manage student accounts.
  2. Otus - A fantastic and easy to use 1:1 learning solution for mobile classrooms (i.e iPads/Chromebooks).  Educators can manage/create student accounts, take attendance, grade, and assess students in real-time, and much much more.
  3. Pixel Press Floors - An amazing iOS app for Game Based Learning that allows students to create their own game by drawing.
  4. Answerables - A super fun and innovative site that brings Game Based Learning together w/ a Learning Management System to provide a safe environment for students to learn any subject in a 3D virtual world.
  5. Stick Around - A great iPad app that can be used for Project Based Learning or Flipping a Lesson by creating puzzles/diagrams and having students label them.
  6. Rosetta Stone for Kids - A wonderful free iPad app for kids ages 3-7 learning how to read.
  7. WordWriter - Is a new learning tool from the award winning collaborative writing site, BoomWriter.  Using BoomWriter's innovative collaborative process, student's can learn and develop their Reading/Writing skills as well as their Vocabulary.
  8. geddit - A fantastic simple to use learning tool where students use their mobile device to answer questions w/ a tap of button in real-time.
  9. Glean - A excellent site for finding educational videos/lesson on Math and Science.
  10. * TowerStorm - An innovative free iOS game that takes place in a 3D virtual world designed for grades 2nd-10th in the subjects of Math and Literacy.
  11. Tackk - A great site w/ educational portal that allows educators to create student accounts where they can create static pages filled w/ dynamic media.
  12. ThingLink - Is a wonderful site/app for students to tag images w/ multimedia content such as: text, audio, or video files.
  13. GoNoodle - My favorite site around for giving students "brain breaks" during class through educational and fun activities/videos.
  14. Gooru - A great place for students to find study guides on a wide range of subjects that are aligned to Common Core Standards and ideal for personalized learning.
  15. Booktrack Classroom - A excellent site/app for adding a soundtrack to student's writing.  Also, a nice place to find Common Core aligned lesson plans.
  16. Pear Deck - A cool educational tool that interacts w/ Google Chrome/Drive to create interactive quizzes, slideshows, and presentations.
  17. News-O-Matic - A terrific free mobile app designed to bring 5 Common Core aligned articles to students.
  18. Prodigy - A fantastic free online Math game aligned to Common Core Standards grades 1-6th.  Best of all this game differentiates instruction and educators can track student's progress as well as generate detailed reports.
  19. Citelighter - An online Writing platform for K-12 that helps students organize and research for papers and homework.  Also, educators can monitor, add assignments, and grade students.
  20. Plickers - A unique (free) mobile app that acts as a student response system that uses QR codes and mobile devices to answer/respond to questions.
  21. Math w/ Amigos - Healthy Heroes 1 - Two of my favorite educational iOS game that is ideal for Game Based Learning in the areas of basic Math and Health.
  22. * Chronicle - A unbelievable iPad app for helping teachers w/ their best teaching strategies by "chronicling" each student through, notes, videos, assessments, and much much more.
  23. * Voice Dream - The best text to speech app I have ever seen w/ an abundance of features such as: highlighting, definitions, bookmarking, and more.
  24. AR Flashcards Shapes & Colors - Space - Excellent iOS apps that uses Augmented Reality to bring interactive 3D objects to life to teach about: shapes, colors, and outer space.
  25. * Teachley: Mt. Multiplis - Players build bridges in this computational Math game to help students build their multiplication skills.
  26. * Book Writer One - A free and easy to use iOS app for creating digital books.  This is a great way to introduce digital storytelling to the classroom.
  27. 30hands Learning Community - A ideal and easy to use cloud based LMS that lets educators assess, collaborate, and grade students in real-time.
  28. WeLearnedIt - An excellent free iPad for the mobile classroom, ePortfolios, and Project Based Learning.
  29. NameCoach - An interesting free site for teachers wanting to learn student names and the proper way to pronounce them.
  30. Word Clouds by ABCYa - A terrific free iPad app for creating word clouds.
  31. Drawp for School - A wonderful free iPad app w/ educational portal and cloud storage for creating beautiful looking projects.
  32. * Grid Lines: Ordered Pair Game - One of my favorite iOS apps for Game Based Learning that uses a familiar Battleship style game to practice plotting points on a graph.
  33. RoomRecess - A excellent site for finding free educational games for El Ed students.
  34. * Ask3 - One of my favorite free iPad apps for adding narration to an image to visually explain any topic.  This is ideal for creating a flipped classroom.
  35. GuidedVideo - A wonderful iPad app for Guided Learning where educators create questions w/ images as the answers that students tap on.
  36. Kahoot - Is a fantastic free tool that combines Game Based Learning and a Student Response System to bring a fun and easy to use real-time assessment tool to the classroom.
  37. Edventure Builder - An innovative new site that is perfect for sparking student's creativity by providing an online platform to create: scavenger hunts, interactive stories, or "choose-your-own-adventures".
  38. Write on Video - A great iPad app for digital storytelling that allows users to upload a video and then annotate, draw, or add images over it.
  39. Photos for Class - The easiest way to find safe Creative Common licensed photos for the classroom that are cited appropriately.
  40. Flashcard Monkey - A fun way to learn vocabulary w/ cartoon based flashcards.
  41. Magical Mental Math - A super fun iOS game designed for grades 2nd-6th working on their basic Math skills.

  43. Write to Read - A iPad app designed for kids 3-10 yrs old to help develop their Reading and Writing skills by creating a digital book.  Also, this app is ideal for introducing digital storytelling and aligned to Common Core Standards.

  47. Xnote - An innovative iOS app for geocaching that takes going on a scavenger hunt to a whole new level.
  48. * Tocomail - A excellent site/app that provides a safe "filtered" email environment for kids.
  49. * PICME - A nice free iPad app where kids "star" in their very own digital story by replacing their face w/ the main characters.
  50. Quiz Dungeon - A wonderful iOS game that helps students learn basic Math through an RPG style adventure.
  51. * Hideout: Early Reading - A great iOS app for young readers looking to develop their Reading skills in such areas as: word recognition, sounding out words, finding the letter, and more.
  52. * Zeus vs. Monsters / Math vs. Dinosaurs - Two excellent Android apps for learning basic Math skills by fighting off mythical creatures and dinosaurs.
  53. * Tynker - A free iPad app that teaches students how to program/code by assembling blocks together (i.e Scratch).
  54. * Letter Battle - A super fun iOS app for learning how to Spell in a RPG setting.
  55. * Bluster - A free iPad app that helps students develop their Vocabulary by playing a multiplayer game.
  56. * Chromville - A fantastic mobile app that uses augmented reality to have students complete a fun filled 3D adventure.
  57. EverySlide - A great way to take a presentation and make it interactive by sharing a unique access code.
  58. * Kid Screen Time - A excellent schedule/timer for an iOS device that alerts parents when their child's time is up.
  59.  Ginkgotree - An innovative way to take any kind of print media (textbook, website, etc) and digitize it to make it their own.
  60. Penzu Classroom - A wonderful safe site where educators and students can create an online journal and track/grade assignments and more.
  61. * ZooKazam - Bring 3D animals to life is this beautiful interactive augmented reality iOS app.
  62. Hooda Math - A great site w/ over 50 Math games for grades K-12th.
  63. FlipSnack Edu - A new Web 2.0 site w/ educational portal that allows educators and students to create and deliver online content in a safe way.
  64. Matific - A nice all-in-one site for Math for finding a wide variety of worksheets, videos, activities, and more.
  65. FlashDecks - A cool and easy to use site for finding and creating digital flashcards.
  66. * Imagistory - A wonderful free iPad app where students record/narrate their very own "wordless" picture book.
  67. * Book Builder - A nice free iOS app that acts as a "choose-your-own" adventure where students select how they story is going to progress.
  68. PortfolioGen Classroom - A excellent site w/ educational portal that allows students to create digital portfolios in a safe environment.
  69. * Toonia Storymaker - One of my favorite iPad apps for digital storytelling where the more a student plays the more features they unlock.
  70. * Math Monsters Bingo - A fun free iOS game for learning basic Math in a Bingo style game.
  71. * Teachable - A very nice productivity iPad app that helps teachers plan, track, and organize their classroom.
  72. ClassWallet - An interesting new site that allows educators to electronically manage and organize classroom funds.
  73. littleBIG History - One my favorite timeline apps for the iPad that covers areas from the Big Bang Theory to Current Events.
  74. * Little Story Creator - A wonderful new iOS app for scrapbooking or digital storytelling.
  75. Wizenworld - Uses Game Based Learning to teach Common Core Math skills in RPG/Action Adventure setting.
  76. Angle Asteroids - A fun iOS app that helps students learn how to measure angles in the old "Asteroid" style arcade game.
  77. * Brainfeed - An excellent iPad app for finding safe and educational videos for students.
  78. Classcraft - Using the mega-popular PC game World of Warcraft theme to the classroom to promote learning through Game Based Learning.
  79. Flipgrid - Kind of reminds me of an "adult" version of Voicethread where educators can ask a question via a video and students can respond.
  80. Fishtree - A innovative new digital learning platform that allows educators to curate and create lessons for their students.
  81. Speaking Times Table - A fun iPad app for students wanting to learn and practice their multiplication tables.
  82. * Math Hunter - A wonderful iOS game for basic Math skills that has lots of replay value in this adventure filled bow-n-arrow game.
  83. Bouncy Balls - A great way to monitor classroom noise through balls bouncing on a screen.
  84. Common Core Quest - A excellent free Android app aligned to Common Core Standards for practicing Math and LA tests/problems.
  85. * Reading Raving - A great iPad app for beginning readers where they progress from letters to phonics to reading full sentences.
  86. Speech Wizard - A terrific iPad app for ESL, parents, or teachers looking to help students w/ their articulation skills.
  87. Classkick - A interesting new iPad app that allows educators to gather, assess, and provide real-time feedback w/ students.
  88. * Door 24 - A wonderful fee iPad app for basic Math skills aligned to Common Core Standards for grades 4th-8th.
  89. ProcessOn - A great site for brainstorming or mind mapping in real-time.
  90. ClassFlow - Is a cloud based learning platform that teachers can use to create digital lessons to be viewed on browser based devices.
  91. Sticker Story - A fun iPad app for digital storytelling through the use of stickers.
  92. * Verso - A great way to flip your class by creating lessons students can view at home and then respond to.
  93. Slidebean - A nice site/app for creating beautiful looking presentations w/ lots of templates to choose from.
  94. * Elevated Math - An excellent free iOS app for finding animated Math lessons on a wide variety of topics.
  95. Poindle - A nice free tool for educators to schedule appointments.
  96. * MarcoPolo Ocean - A wonderful iPad app for young learners wanting to interact and learn about the ocean.
  97. Comment Bubble - A neat little site where a user uploads a video and then selects what type of feedback others can give (i.e. text, audio, video).
  98. Puzzlin Pieces USA - A fantastic iPad app designed for kids 6-8 yrs old for learning the geography of the United States.
  99. * Piiig Labs - A iPad app that teaches young kids about Science by performing different scientific experiments.
  100. TwistedWave - A nice online audio editor that integrates w/ Google Drive and SoundCloud.

Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2013


Well, here it is my favorite and most popular post of the year, my Top 100 Sites/Apps of the year!!!  Continuing w/ the trend from last year, readers are going to find more and more apps on the list and less sites, as the flux in mobile learning and BYOD (bring your own devices) continues to rise.  Also, you'll notice that there are a lot of learning tools for Digital Storytelling & Math.  I believe the reason for this is because storytelling is a learning tool that can be used by a wide range of educators for any subject, and Math is a very popular subject w/ lots of diverse ways to go about teaching it.  W/ that I hope you enjoy this list and as always thanks again for reading!!!

Top 100 Sites/Apps of 2013

  1. Buncee - A fantastic new web tool for creating presentations or digital stories that can be embedded into a site/blog.  Also, this is a great way to "flip a classroom" and through an educational portal allows educators to create student accounts.
  2. Geddit - This is a wonderful educational tool that allows educators to assess student learning on  any mobile device.  The way this works is that a student clicks on a ascending bar graph to determine their level of understand while teachers get their results in instant real-time.
  3. EDpuzzle - Is a excellent new site that allows educators to edit/crop a video and then "flip a classroom" by adding questions to assess a student's understanding.  Best of all, there is a feature to record your own audio to add audio notes or narration to a video.
  4. Educators App - A innovative site that turns teacher's webpages into a mobile app for iOS or Android.  This is ideal for those mobile learning and those schools that are 1:1 or BYOD (Bring Your Own Device).  Best of all, as a teacher updates their site, the mobile app updates as well.
  5. eduClipper - A terrific site for creating a digital pin-board for curating and sharing educational content.  Also, allows for teachers to create student accounts which is ideal for education.
  6. *Book Writer - A great iOS app for digital storytelling.  This app allows students to add text, images, video, and even record their own audio narration for creating digital stories.  A finished story can then be printed out via PDF or exported into iBooks.
  7. AR Flashcards - One of the most popular sites for Augmented Reality that allows educators to print out flashcards on a wide variety of subjects to bring objects to "life".
  8. *Mystery Math Museum - MMM is one of my all-time favorite iPad apps for Game Based Learning.  This app designed for kids 6-12, has them helping a ghost rescue dragonflies throughout 8 museums by solving basic Math equations. 
  9. *Level It Books - A wonderful iOS app for scanning a book and getting a Reading/Lexile level.  Also, has the ability to maintain a class roster w/ a student's reading level as well as create a digital library of books for a teacher's classroom.
  10. Quadblogging - A innovate approach to blogging that has 4 schools sign-up and blog in a "quad".  A school will blog while the others view/comment and then rotate around while a educational moderator checks to make sure everything is running smoothly.
  11. UtellStory - A fantastic site for digital storytelling that allows users to upload audio, video, photos to tell a story, as well as the ability to embed a story into a site/blog.  Also, UtellStory has a educational portal for allowing educators to create student accounts.
  12. Quandary - Is a free educational site/iPad app that is ideal for Game Based Learning.  The game focuses on a student's ethical and critical thinking skills while engaging them in a sci fi/fantasy themed setting.
  13. *30hands - One of the simplest and easiest iOS apps for digital storytelling.  This app allows students to add a picture and then record an audio narration to tell a story.
  14. Blendspace - Is a excellent site for collecting digital resources and then sharing them students.  Also, a educator can create online quizzes and assess students in real-time using these digital resources.
  15. *StoryLines for Schools - Is an innovative iOS app that helps students generate their creativity and sentence building skills.  The way this works is similar to the game "telephone" where a student types a sentence and then watches as another draw a picture of that sentence.  When that is done another titles that picture and types their own sentence and the process continues until the StoryLine is complete.
  16. iPracticeMath - A wonderful new site that is an all-in-one stop for a students/teachers Math needs.  This site has online activities in a wide range of topics such as: algebra, division, decimals, and more.  Also, there are lots of educational resources, worksheets, glossary, and even student tracking w/ detailed reporting for registered users.
  17. *SlideIdea - Is a  terrific iPad app for creating engaging presentations/slideshows.  An educator can either create a presentation from scratch or use one of the many downloadable templates.  Once a presentation is done a teacher can share them w/ students through the use of unique ID code.  Also, an educator can use SlideIdea to poll, ask questions, or assess their students, and is great for Differentiated Instruction.
  18. *Brainstormer - A fun iOS app for generating writing prompts by spinning a wheel in three different categories: theme, setting, and location.
  19. eduCanon - A great site similar to EDpuzzle that allows educators to edit a video and add quizzes.  This is ideal for differentiating instruction as well as for "flipping a classroom".
  20. Alchemy SmartBinder - A excellent site for creating a digital lesson w/ any kind of content.  Once this lesson is created it can be shared w/ students via a URL and can be used to "flip a classroom".
  21. Super Teacher Worksheets - A fantastic resource for educators where they can find worksheets, printables, puzzles, and more to print out for students.  Also, this is a great place to find puzzle and activity generators as well as common core aligned worksheets as well.
  22. *Animoby - A wonderful iPad app that turns an iPad into an interactive whiteboard.  A user has a wide variety of tools to write, type, draw or annotate over an object.  Also, Animboy is great for creating a digital lesson as a user has the ability to record their voice which makes it ideal for creating a "flipped lesson".
  23. Wikispaces Classroom - While Wikispaces has been around a long time, Wikispaces Classroom is a new spinoff of the great site.  WC gives educators a place to have students create digital content in a safe controlled space.  Also, it can be used in many different educational ways such as: social networking, assessing students, project based learning, and more.
  24. *Story Creator - A fantastic iOS app for digital storytelling that allows students to their audio narration to a story.  A real cool feature is the ability to enable text to be highlighted as a student reads text.
  25. *Jack and the Beanstalk a Mathematical Adventure - This is a excellent iPad app for Game Based Learning that focuses on different concepts of Math in the unique take on the Jack and the Beanstalk tale.  Students will learn about different Math concepts such as: counting money, telling time, and recognizing shapes, while practicing their reading of Jack and the Beanstalk.
  26. RoomRecess - One of my favorite new sites for educational online games for grades K-5.  These games focus on a wide range of subjects such as: Math, Reading, Word, Typing, etc.
  27. LaunchpadEDU - Is a excellent educational portal to support the use of Launchpad iOS apps in education.  This site has lots of educational resources such as: lesson plans, resources, worksheets, and more.
  28. *Daisy the Dinosaur - A wonderful iPad app that teaches the kids the basics of programming by having them drag-drop commands and watching as Daisy preforms them.
  29. *Science Heroes 1: Digestive System for Kids - Is a fun iOS app from one of my favorite educational app developers, Yogome.  This is a game that focuses on all 5 phases of digestion through 15 levels of play.
  30. *Toonia Storymaker - A great iPad app for digital storytelling.  Students have a choice of up to 20 characters to choose from as well as 7 different themes to build their story.  Also, Toonia has high replay value as students are able to unlock features as they build their story.
  31. *Hopscotch - A iPad app that reminds me a lot of the site Scratch for programming.  This app has students assembly blocks of code and then watching as characters preform their moves.
  32. *Story Wheel - An innovative iOS app for digital storytelling that has students spinning a wheel and then recording a story to the picture that comes up.  Once a story is completed it can then be shared online or published to iBooks.
  33. *Write About This - A fantastic iPad app for creating or finding Writing prompts aligned to Common Core Standards.
  34. Google Connected Classrooms - Is a interesting new site by Google for educators to take their students on virtual field trips.  These field trips are all done through Google Hangouts inside of Google+ and has students visiting such places as: museums, zoos, memorials, and more.
  35. *Math Heroes 1: Basic Operations - The second iOS app by Yogome to make this list that is excellent for basic Math skills.  Math Heroes has students traveling through over a 100 levels while practicing their basic Math skills (division, subtraction, etc.) while unlocking secret power-ups and features.
  36. Google Play for Education - Is a new online story dedicated for education in seamlessly bringing educational Android apps to Google devices.
  37. Rewordify - Is one of the most interesting sites I've come across this year.  This site allows students to enter text (or copy/paste) and then w/ a click of a button "rewordify" their sentence. This is a great way to learn how to paraphrase or even work on vocabulary by highlighting words.
  38. eLearning Infographics - This is probably the best site around for finding educational infographics on any number of subjects.  Also, a user can print out, submit, or even embed an infographic as well.
  39. Brickflow - An innovative site for creating presentations by turning hashtags into digital stories.
  40. *Tabtor - An excellent iPad app/program that helps students learn Math.  This is done by having students watch video tutorials on a given subject and then writing their answer on an iPad.  This is a great way for educators to "flip their classroom" and differentiate instruction.
  41. SchoolsWorld - One of my favorite new sites for finding safe educational videos.
  42. *Tangram Chess - The second app on this list by one of my favorite Math app developers, Math File Folder Games.  This excellent app has students trying to recreate shapes by rotating, reflecting, or translating them to the other side of the chess board.  Also, this game is blue-tooth enabled allowing multiplayers players across multiple devices.
  43. ClassXP - An innovative new site that uses Game Based Learning to help motivate students to get better grades.  The way this works is by giving a student a dashboard/digital environment to create an avatar and watch as they progress through the year by monitoring their grades and earning experience points (XP).  As student earn experience points they can use these to get badges as well as other digital "goodies".
  44. *Easy Studio - Is an excellent iPad app for creating custom animations.  Easy Studio uses a very user-friendly stop-motion technique to have students create step by step creations.
  45. The Time Tribe - A fun engaging site that uses Game Based Learning to immerse students in adventure through the past learning about different cultures and ways of life.
  46. StoryToolz - A wonderful site for finding/generating word prompts as well as finding other beneficial writing tools (i.e., word count, readability level, etc.).
  47. Free Tiiu Pix - A great place for finding safe educational videos and slideshows.
  48. *ChemDraw - A nice iPad app for HS/College students for students studying Chemistry.  This app lets students create and draw molecules and their chemical reactions.
  49. YouTube Time Machine - A fun site that allows users to use YouTube to travel through time and view favorite videos by year and subject.
  50. Graphite - One of my favorite new site for finding educational sites/apps reviewed by educators.
  51. *Gummii - A fantastic iPad app that has students creating an avatar and solving Math equations in a Minecraft style 3D world.
  52. *Cloudart - A excellent iPad app for creating word clouds.
  53. The Lost Function - Is a in depth Math game that has students interacting w/ a number of characters to solve Math equations to progress further in the game.  This game takes place in a fully immersive 3D environment and has students solving a wide range of problems such as: decimals, fractions, and more.
  54. TypeKids - A great site for students to learn Keyboarding/Typing.  This game has 30 levels for students to complete as they improve their Typing skills and unlock other educational games.
  55. *Experience Life - A beautiful iPad app for Health/Science/Biology teachers looking to introduce the different internal systems of the body.  This interactive app focuses on systems such as the: senses, nervous system, and musculoskeletal system.
  56. NuSkool - Is an interesting new site for students 6-12th grade for learning Math, Science, English, etc through pop culture based lessons.
  57. *Flowboard - A wonderful iPad app for creating stunning presentations that can be embedded into a site/blog.
  58. Brainscape - An impressive site/app for creating multimedia style flashcards that can be shared to mobile devices.
  59. *Shadow Puppet - A nice iOS app for digital storytelling that allows students to add audio narration to a photo.  A finished story can then be embedded into a site/blog.
  60. Submrge - A cool new site for learning about Gamification (Game Based Learning) in the classroom.  Submrge reviews recommends in detail what games are good for the classroom as well as how they can be integrated and what Common Core Standards they may be aligned to.
  61. Voki Classroom - Voki is a site that has been around for along time that allows users to create a talking avatar.  Now, they've released an educational portal that allows teachers to create student accounts and assign/manage Voki based assignments.
  62. Science4Us - A wonderful Science curriculum for K-2 students that focuses on different subjects such as: Earth, Space, Matter, etc.
  63. LivePrezo - A fantastic site that turns presentations interactive.  The way this works is by taking a presentation in PDF format and then making it interactive by supply a unique code that students can use to login to.  Teachers can then ask questions while students answer and assess them in real-time.
  64. Balefire Labs - Is one of the best new sites around to find detailed educational app reviews.
  65. *The Human Body by Tinybop - One of the best apps around for teaching students about the human body.  This interactive app covers such areas as the: heart, eyes, lungs, etc.
  66. Quest - An innovative site/Windows app for creating interactive text based adventure games (i.e. Zork) and great for learning the basics of programming/scripting.
  67. SimCity EDU - A new site based on SimCity that is perfect for Game Based Learning.  This is a great way for students to play the popular PC game in a safe environment, as they build cities cans learn about: Math, Science, Economics, and more.
  68. Power My Learning - A wonderful site for students to find educational games, activities, printables, and more.  Also, a educator can create a playlist for students or even find activities based on Common Core Standards.
  69. BrainRush - A great site for creating flashcard style games that can be used for differentiating instruction.
  70. *Tellagami - Is a fun iOS app for creating a talking avatar that can then be placed in a story.  It reminds me a bit of a Voki and great way to integrate digital storytelling into the classroom.
  71. Fotor - A very powerful and user-friendly site for editing photos.
  72. Weavly EDU - A great site designed for classrooms to have students create video and music mash-ups/presentations.
  73. *Phrasalstein - A fun iPad app that helps students learn vocabulary and phrases in a mid-evil/horror setting.  The way this works is by having a student select a verb and preposition and watch as an animation occurs.
  74. *Basher's Presidents - A nice little iOS app for learning about the US Presidents as well as play a game of putting them in the correct order.
  75. Lucidpress - A excellent new site for creating multimedia collaborative documents.
  76. Mathalicious - Is a wonderful resource for Math teachers as it provides lots of resources and lesson plans aligned to Common Core Standards for solving real world Math problems.
  77. Taught It - A nice free site for educators to share all sorts of media (documents, photos, videos, etc.).
  78. Code Monster - A cool site for students wanting to learn how to program in Javascript through 58 interactive lessons.
  79. *Playback - A great iPad app for creating screencasts that can then be shared via Dropbox or exported into an mp4 file.
  80. Explania - A fantastic site for finding educational animated videos on a wide variety of subjects that can then be embedded into a site/blog.
  81. Metta - A great site for creating video lessons that can be used for Guided Learning or "flipping a classroom".
  82. QuestBase - A wonderful site for educators that allows them to create: quizzes, tests, puzzles, etc, and then publish them online for students take.  This is a great way to assess students in real-time and a teacher can even password protect their work.
  83. Math Live - Is a innovative site for teaching different areas of Math such as: numbers, patterns, shapes, and more.  The way this works is a student watches an animated video (think BrainPop) and then takes a quiz to reinforce learning. 
  84. Educade - A great place for educators to find a wide variety of resources such as: lessons, videos, apps, and more.
  85. *Sight Words Hangman - A fun iOS iOS app that is great for students learning how to read, vocabulary, and word recognition.  Best of all a teacher can review all word lists and even generate reports.
  86.  EasyDefine - A fantastic site for uploading a list of words and getting a definition, synonym, flashcard, and more.
  87. Screenhero - This is a great site/application that allows users to not only share their screen w/ others, but take over the other person's computer to help them troubleshoot problems.
  88. appoLearning - A great site for finding detailed reviews (on a 100% scale) of educational apps.
  89. NicerTube - A fun way to share YouTube videos and remove all comments/links.
  90. Copyright Kids - A excellent resource for students, parents, and teachers looking to find out about all issues pertaining to copyright.
  91. TeachQuest - A new social network for educators to share resources and collaborate w/ parents.
  92. *QR Code Maker - A nice simple iOS app for creating QR codes that can be used in the classroom in many ways, such as: scavenger hunt, flipping their classroom, or mobile learning.
  93. ScootPad - Is an excellent site/app that is ideal for adaptive learning that aligns w/ Common Core Standards.  Also, this is a great way for educators, parents, and students to collaborate online as well as track student/analyze student data.
  94. Teacher Gaming Network - This is a cool new social network that is dedicated to Gamification in the classroom.  TGN allows educators to create educational games and share them w/ their students or embed them into a site/blog.
  95. Smart Kit - A nice site for finding safe educational games and puzzles in a wide range of subjects.
  96. Jukeboxlessons - A new site for educators wanting to teach or tutor online done through Google Hangouts or Skype.
  97. *GazziliMath - A fun iOS app for youngsters and preschoolers learning about Math.  This beautiful looking interactive app focuses on such concepts as: counting, number sequence, addition, and subtraction.
  98. Lessonwell - A interesting new site that allows educators to create digital lessons based on different types of media (photo, videos, audio).
  99. Memofon - A wonderfully simple site for brainstorming and creating mind maps.  All a user has to do is fill in an outline and watch as the mind map is created.
  100. Chem Pro - A great iOS/Android app for learning about Chemistry.  This app has over 80 video lessons, an interactive periodic table, and flashcards to help students learn about Chemistry.

100 Educational iOS Apps

Mobile Learning and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is the latest craze in education.  Mobile devices are transforming the way teachers are teaching and students are learning.  The term "Flipped Classrooms" is becoming more mainstream in which teachers are using online methods to teach and students are using mobile devices to learn.  While there are 1000's of educational iOS apps, I decided to curate a list into a 100 to help educators.  I created a list that covers a wide variety of areas and I hope will be beneficial to not only students but teachers as well.

*This list is in alphabetical order and will not include the price due to the constant change and deals on mobile apps.


  1. 5 Dice: Order of Operations - A nice iOS app that is ideal for teaching the Math concept of Order of Operations.  Also, a nice feature is the ability of a whiteboard that students can use to solve the problems.
  2. 9 Slides - A great iPad app for adding video & audio narration to a slideshow/presentation.
  3. Adam Dream: Numbers Nightmare - A fun puzzle/numbers game for iOS devices that my kids love to play.
  4. Alien Buddies - A nice iOS app ideal for kids ages 3-7 w/ a wide variety of activities such as: matching, puzzles, dot-to-dot, and stickers.
  5. Amazing Alex - This is a neat iOS game from the creators of Angry Birds that is ideal for those teaching Rube Goldberg machines.
  6. Animation Desk - A great easy to use iPad app for turning drawings into animations.
  7. Answer Pad - A innovative app that removes the paper from test taking and allows educators to create interactive test sheets that the students use on their iPads.  Also, lots of new features to come such as the ability to use the iPad as a clicker and have students answer verbal questions on  it.
  8. Astroloquiz - A neat iPad app that based around the 12 zodiac signs.  A student answers a variety of ethical questions to get a detailed understanding of their personality based on the zodiac.  Also, there is a interactive glossary w/ over 90 definitions.
  9. Artist Corner - A nice easy to use iPad for creating digital art and then sharing w/ others.
  10. Basher's Presidents - One of my favorite iOS apps for learning about the US presidents.  This app has a flash card w/ an image president as well as a fact.  Also, this app tests students in a game of arranging presidents in the correct order.
  11. BrainPop - A great iOS app based on the popular website, where a student watches an animated video and then takes a short followup quiz.
  12. Brainstormer - One of my favorite iOS apps that is ideal for generating a random word prompt based on: subject, setting, and style.
  13.  C-Fit - A series of iOS videos to give students a 10 min break from schoolwork for exercise.
  14. Celly - A very popular iOS app for creating a "cell" which is a private social network that only invited members can join through texting.
  15. ClassDojo - A wonderful iOS app based on the popular behavior management site.
  16. Color & Draw for Kids - A nice iOS app for coloring and drawing that also allows kids to sketch over their own photos and trace letters as well.
  17. Comic Life - One of the most popular comic making sites now has a mobile app.
  18. Dinosaur Train Classic in the Jurassic Jr - A terrific iPad app that focuses on three areas of math such as: counting, using a balance, and sorting.
  19. Doceri - A ideal iPad app for educators that allows them to screencast, remote desktop to another computer, as well as use as an interactive whiteboard.
  20. Earth School - An educational iOS app that teaches kids (2-6 yrs) about the big bang theory in a variety of activites and games.
  21. EasyBib - A wonderful iOS app for creating a bibliography by scanning a barcode of a book or typing the name of a book.
  22. eCove - A nice app for administrators that works w/ the eCove software for doing staff and student evaluations.
  23. Educreations - One of the most popular iPad apps for educators for turning the iPad into a recordable whiteboard.
  24. Electric Slide - A nice iOS app that allows users to use their iOS device to remote control slideshows.
  25. Experience Life - A innovative iPad app that is ideal for MS/HS students and Health/Biology teachers for learning about the different electrical systems in the body and how it responds to stimuli.
  26. FluencyFinder - The perfect iOS app for educators for assessing a students Reading Level grades 1st-8th, w/ the ability to get instant real-time results.  Also, future updates will include comprehension questions as well as the ability to email results via a push of a button. 
  27. FreeSpeech - A nice iPad app for Special Ed teachers and students who have difficulty speaking.  A teacher can record their voice to a image to help students understand.
  28. Gazziliworld - A nice site for finding a variety of educational iOS apps for PreK students.
  29. GoClass - A great all-in-one solution for the iPad where educators create lessons/assignments on the web and students complete them on the iPad.  Also, a nice way to track and manage students.
  30. Gooru Collections - A great iPap app for download a wide variety of educational resources for Math/Science students 5th-12th grade.
  31. Grading Game - A fun iOS app for finding grammar and typing errors.  A nice way for students to learn correct Writing skills.
  32. i Tell a Story - A fantastic iOS app for telling a story similar to how one creates a podcast on Garageband.
  33. iBooks Author - An educators dream come true where a teacher can create their own interactive digital textbook.
  34. Haiku Deck - A popular iPad app for making stunning looking slideshows/presentations.
  35. Imageloop - A nice simple iOS app for creating slideshows and sharing w/ others.
  36. InClass - A great all-in-one solution for students for taking/sharing notes, organizing classes, and much more.
  37. iStudiez Pro - A nice iOS app for HS students on up for keeping track and organizing their classes, homework, and more.
  38. iTeacherBook - A wonderful iOS app for teachers that allows them to track their students assignments, take attendance, grade, and much more.
  39. Kids Flashcard Maker - A great iPad app for making interactive flashcards w/ photos or videos.
  40. Kids Fun - This is a fun iOS app for younger kids that has over 70 games and activities teaching out animals and nature.
  41. Kids Movies - A nice little iOS app for finding rated G movies for kids.
  42. Kindertown - A nice iOS app for helping teachers/parents find educational apps.
  43. Knowmia (Teach) - A terrific iPad app for teachers to create and record lessons.  These lessons can include: text, images, and videos and can be uploaded to the Knowmia website.
  44. Learn Spanish for Kids - A nice bilingual app for teaching kids either the Spanish or English language through the use of animals, colors, and numbers.
  45. LetterSchool - A very cool iOS app for teaching students how to recognize and write letters and numbers.
  46. Level It Books - A excellent and handy iOS app for anyone who wants to get a Reading Level or Lexile score for a book.  All a user has to do is scan in the book's ISBN number to get a Reading Level.  Also, a teacher can track and manage books, search by title, or create their own book entry.
  47. Little Digits - A nice little app (no pun intended) for kids to learn how to count and associate counting on fingers.
  48. Maily - A innovative iPad app that teaches kids how to email in a safe environment.
  49. Marble Math - A  cool iOS app for kids ages 9-12 for multiplication and division.  Students have to guide a marble through a variety a mazes avoided objects and solving problems.
  50. Math Dojo - A fun iOS app that my kids love for teaching addition through the use of a fighting style game.
  51. Math Minute Madness - A terrific iOS app for learning different concepts of Math such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  52. MiniMod Drawing Conclusions - A cool iOS app for Reading/Comprehension that has students draw conclusions by answering questions to a reading passage.
  53. Moody Monster Manor - A fun iOS app for the younger kids for learning about their emotions through different games/activities.
  54. Mindsnacks - A wonderful collection of iOS apps for foreign language and vocabulary, w/ more subjects soon to follow.
  55. Miracle of Life - A beautiful looking iPad app ideal for Health teachers and parents teaching about the different stages of the human growth cycle.
  56. Mobicip - Is a safe browser for iOS devices where teachers or parents can customize their own filter and track kids browsing history.
  57. My Story - A terrific iPad app for kids who can create a digital story by drawing or uploading photos and recording audio.
  58. My Word Wall - A very nice app for young students (and ESL) learning how to read and recognize words and letters.  Kids listen to a word while associating it w/ a letter and picture.
  59. myCreate - A excellent iPad app for creating stop motion animations.  Ideal for digital storytelling.
  60. myHomework - A great mobile app for helping students keep their school life organized by setting reminders, tracking classes/homework, and more.
  61. Nearpod - One of the most popular all-in-one solution for the iPad where teachers can create interactive content/lessons and share them w/ students on their mobile devices.
  62. Numbers League - A very innovative and super fun iPad app for students learning basic math skills.  This app allows up to 4 players to play at once and integrates they use of comic book superheroes and villains.
  63. Piano Dust Buster - A great iOS game that helps teach kids how to play the piano by tapping the key that germs land on.
  64. PicknSpell - A fun little iOS app for spelling that helps young students recognize words by picking out the images they see.
  65. Pixntell - A fantastic iOS app for adding audio to pictures to tell a story.
  66. Pirate Pop - A cool iOS app that lets students play as a pirate as they fire a cannon to answer multiplication problems.
  67. Presidents vs Aliens - The second iOS app on my list for learning about presidents that uses a more game style where students "unlock" presidents while they play through the game.
  68. Puppet Pals - A very fun iPad app for digital storytelling where students can create their own characters/puppets and move them around the screen while recording their audio.
  69. Quipper Quiz - A nice iOS app for students to learn by taking a short quiz on any number of subjects on their mobile devices.
  70. Recycle Hero - One of my favorite iOS apps that teaches my kids about recycling through the use of educational games.
  71. Remind101 - A great iOS app for using a mobile device to keep in touch w/ students and parents through the use of texting.
  72. Rover - A safe browser for students on the iPad that also allows them to access flash content.
  73. ScootPad - A iPad app that integrates w/ the popular learning platform for common core standards in Math, Reading, Spelling, and Writing.
  74. SendHub - A fantastic iOS app for getting a unique # to keep in touch w/ parents and students.  This is a great way to keep send group text messages as reminders to parents/students as well as keep current on classroom happenings.
  75. Sentence Builder - A fantastic iPad app for teaching students how to write grammatically correct sentences.
  76. ShowMe - An ideal app for teachers that turns their iPad into an interactive whiteboard.
  77. Simple Learning 123 - A nice site for the youngsters that teaches them how to count in 3 different languages using the methods of: touch, site, and sound.
  78. SlideShark - A neat iOS app that lets users view and share powerpoint presentations on their mobile devices.
  79. SonicPics - A very popular iOS app for digital storytelling by adding and syncing audio to photos.
  80. Spelling Hero - A great iOS app for helping students not only learn how to spell but provide pronunciation and definitions to words as well.
  81. SpellingCity - A terrific iOS app that interacts w/ the popular SpellingCity website (access teacher's word lists) and lets students play educational Spelling/Vocabulary games on their mobile device
  82. Story Dice - A interesting iOS app for creating writing prompts or story starters by rolling dice to select: plot, character, and setting.
  83. Story Patch - A wonderful iPad app for digital storytelling that takes students through the different steps of story creation.
  84. StorySmith - A fun iPad app for creating a digital story by adding: text, objects, and backgrounds.
  85. Subtext - A very innovative iPad app that turns any book or document into a digital classroom.  This happens by being able to create discussions on any digital content by creating groups and annotating/writing content to engage learning.
  86. Symbaloo - The very popular bookmarking site for education is now available on iOS mobile devices.  Either students or teachers can access bookmarked sites already created in Symbaloo, or they can start bookmarking their own using the app.
  87. Teachers Tech - One of my favorite iOS apps for integrating technology into the classroom.  This app allows teachers to view web 2.0 tutorials on a wide variety of subjects to help implement them into the classroom.
  88. Teacher Tilly - A fun iOS app for toddlers and preschoolers that help teaches them about shapes, organizing, and sorting through the use of puzzles.
  89. Tell a Tale - A fun iPad app for telling a story based on predetermined sentences and pictures.
  90. Tellagami - A cool iOS app for digital storytelling where a user creates an avatar and record their voice or types text to tell a story.
  91. Timeline 3D - An innovative iOS app that integrates w/ the website to create stunning 3D timelines.
  92. Timeline Maker - A wonderful iPad app for making chronological timelines by combining text and images.

  94. Toontastic - My favorite iPad for digital storytelling where students can select characters/objects and move them around a background while recording their voice.
  95. Trace Letters - A nice app for the youngsters to learn how to write and recognize letters/numbers.
  96. uSpeak (Learn Spanish) - A great iPad app that teaches people how to learn Spanish through 6 educational games.
  97. VidRhythm - A fun app for creating a music video by uploading video, adding a style/effect, and select a musical background.
  98. VoiceThread - One of the most popular Web 2.0 sites for digital storytelling is now on mobile devices.
  99. WeWantApps - A handy iOS app that is similar to Kindertown in which it lets users find educational apps by searching through: subject, price, language, and platform.
  100. Write On - A fantastic iPad app that not only teaches kids the alphabet but it teaches them how to write in block/cursive as well.
