Top 10 Self Help Sites for Technology

When using technology it is inevitable that one is going to need help. A lot of valuable time can be wasted trying to search online or find someone that can help meet your technological needs. That being said, I decided to create a Top 10 list that will help teachers and students become "their" own tech. These sites focus on all aspects of technology (OS, hardware, software, etc) and should help that person find what they are looking for and save them that valuable time.

Top 10 Self Help Sites for Technology
  1. Atomic Learning - Probably the most popular educational solution for self help tutorials on a variety of technology areas.
  2. Woopid - A excellent site for 1000's of free video tutorials on technology. Also, a person can request a tutorial that is not found on the site.
  3. Learn That - A great site for free tutorials on a variety of subjects included technology.
  4. Lynda - A paid site similar to Atomic Learning that focuses on software training.
  5. Tech University - A wonderful site for the Mac user/enthusiast.
  6. Internet 4 Classrooms - A very nice site w/ tutorials for Mac and Windows users and lots of links for the K-12 classroom.
  7. Explania - A fun site w/ animated tutorials similar to Brainpop. Also, a user can create their own channel for videos and embed videos into their blog/site as well.
  8. Total Training - A great site w/ lots of tutorials for a monthly fee similar to Lynda.
  9. VTC - 1000's of video tutorials that can be viewed online or purchased as a CD, does require a monthly fee.
  10. Say it Visually - An interesting site where they create/design videos to meet your needs. They specialize in taking complex topics and making them easy to understand.=

Top 50 list

Today, I received a nice little treat when a site called The Digital Learning people nominated Technology Tidbits as one of their top 50 e-Learning blogs. I'm humbled to be included in a list w/ all of these great educators.

It's been about one year since I started this blog and I am really happy w/ the progress it has made. I've been able to collaborate/meet some of the finest/nicest people around. This has never been about me, but about corresponding w/ others to learn best how to fuse technology and education. I'm very lucky to have this platform to share my thoughts/feelings/findings and continue to develop these relationships that mean so very much to me.

Thanks again for all your support!!!

The Future of Learning

After reading an article from Tech & Learning, I decided to write a short post on it. This article covered a book from Curtis J. Bonk called, The World is Open.

I must say that this is a technology book I look very forward to reading. It talks about a variety of topics that Curtis feels that education/technology are evolving.

Some of the highlights include:
  • E-COACHES
  • QUARTER-CENTURY LEARNING CLUBS
  • TERABYTE LEARNING ACCESS POINTS
  • THE VENERATION OF LEARNING
  • PERSONALIZATION + PORTFOLIOS
  • THE SELECTION OF GLOBAL LEARNING PARTNERS
  • TEACHING-LEARNING PERPETUITIES
  • AUTHENTIC LEARNING AMALGAMATIONS
To read the entire article click here.

Also, you can join a discussion I created on the Educator's PLN for further collaboration on the topic.

Technology Faceoff

Technology Faceoff is a new wiki which I designed for a group I created in the social network, Educator's PLN (which I did a review on a few weeks back). This is an exciting group where educators collaborate on 21st Century Technology and try to "weed" out the good from the bad.

The wiki is in it's infancy stage but I think has a lot of promise to help educators decide on which Web 2.0 tools will work for them.

If you'd like to take a look or even join the wiki click here.

Ideas to Inspire

Ideas to Inspire is an excellent resource for teachers who want to bring technology into their curriculum. It is a collection of collaborative presentations from educators all around the world.

I really like the look and feel to this site. It is very easy to navigate through and there are a ton of resources to look through.

Below is an example of one of their presentations from their "curriculum idea" section.

Tunisian English Teaching Forum

The Tunisian ELT Forum is a new online magazine focusing on teaching English in the classroom but more importantly how to use educational tools and engage students. After reading this magazine all I can say is, WOW. This is a well thought out/written publication that incorporates every facet of education; from having a successful start to the school year, to how to best implement technology into education.

Also, I'd like to point out that this e-magazine is very nice/professional looking. You can tell that the writers/editors took some time to create a fine piece of "online literature." I recommend checking out page 25-26 for some great technological resources, written by Tarak Brahmi.
