Artsonia

Artsonia is a great free site for art teachers that I just found out about from Free Technology 4 Teachers.  This site allows students to upload their art work to an online gallery.  However, there is also a teacher section which has lesson plans for grades PreK-12th.

I highly recommend checking out Artsonia by clicking here!!

My Drawings

My Drawings is a fun site that creates an online gallery of children's art. This is a nice site to use for schools as it is a safe environment where teachers can upload students art to their site (via a scanner). Once the art is uploaded a URL is generated that can be shared w/ others.

I recommend checking out My Drawings by clicking here!!

Art Project

Art Project is a wonderful venture by Google that allows people to get immersed in art by traveling through museum virtually. This is an excellent site for students of art as they can learn, explore, comment, and create their own virtual art gallery.

Exploratorium

Thanks to Lee Kolbert for introducing me to Exploratorium an excellent resource for educators as it is an online (and real) museum that focuses on science, art, and human perception. It's really hard to describe this site other then it is a collection of links, activities, videos, etc that educators and students can enjoy alike.

I highly recommend checking out the Exploratorium by clicking here.

Mutapic

Mutapic is a site I just learned about from the wonderful Cliotech. This is a site for creating visual brainstorms. After giving it a try I was rather impressed on the amount of variables one can control before processing their request. However, I really only seeing this site being used in abstract art classes.

Give Mutapic a try by clicking here.

Odosketch

Larry Ferlazzo does it again w/ this great find for creating online sketches, Odosketch. Odosketch is a new site that is great for anyone who loves to create/draw and then post their art work online.

The first thing you'll notice after browsing their impressive gallery, is how easy it is to use. Just click on your drawing utensil and draw away. Best of all, is the more you draw over a line the darker it gets, as well as the same as erasing. The more you move the eraser over the line the lighter this gets. Anybody who has drawn w/ a pencil before will be amazed at how realistic this is.

Check out my example below that I like to call, Apple Smurf.

Give Odosketch a try it's definitely worth a look!!!

Graffiti Creator

Graffiti Creator is a fun site for creating all types of graffiti: text, graphics, backgrounds, etc. After giving it a try I have mixed feelings.

GC is very easy to use, just click your style and type away. What I don't like about it, is all the "extra" stuff that the site has. There are a lot of links that takes you to different sites and it can get kind of confusing.

Doodle Wall

Doodle Wall is a site I first heard about from Larry Ferlazzo, who has an excellent review of it here. It's basically a site where you register an account that gives you a "wall" that you can draw on. I would compare it to Art Pad in that respect just not as fancy.

After creating some drawings and testing it out I can honestly say, I hope I never see this message again...

Doodle Wall gives you a wall that you can set to public/private which is nice (public lets others draw on your wall), but only allows you to draw on that wall once a day. I'm not sure why that is.

There are other features such as chat and so on. The jury is still out for me on this site but it does show promise.

For more info click here.

BTW, I have an email into them regarding CIPA/COPPA compliance there doesn't seem to be any filtering, but they do require a user to be at least 13 yrs old w/ parent's approval, which is pretty standard.

Below is my poor attempt at drawing...

Doink

Doink (not the wrestling clown) is a fun little site where you can create art and then animate it. However, there is a lot more here then just creating custom animations. There is a whole Web 2.0/collaboration aspect.

When you sign up you can then comment on others people art, share projects, and even use the forum. They do have a strict policy to abide by so no swearing/bullying occurs, but I don't think there is a built in filter (they will remove anything inappropriate and ban the user).

Below is an example of my poor attempt at drawing/animating a Mac Mini. (sorry apple ;-)

Art Pad

I just came across this new site (beta) that lets you create art w/ brush strokes and records the whole event as a movie. Then w/ a click of a button you can email it to your friends and even "frame" it to display in their online gallery.

I feel this would be a fun resource for art teachers to use w/ their students to help introduce proper techniques. Also, it has a well defined "tip" section w/ a huge gallery of online art to explore. For more info click here.

Check out my computer example (it's great that you can control the settings to create a time-lapse effect)
