The Globe of Extremes is a very cool interactive globe that has "hot keys"/plots w/ interesting facts about extreme information in the world.  For example, if you wanted to learn about what the highest populated city is away from an ocean or the lowest point below sea level is on earth, this would be the place to go.

Film Story

Film Story is a nice repository for film listings.  These films are listed by country/region and can also be searched by era.  This can be a very handy resource for History/Geography teachers.  However, this site only lists the films but does not actually "house" them.

For a more detailed review check out Free Technology 4 Teachers.

GeoCube

GeoCube is an excellent flash based site for History/Geography teachers. Think of it as YouCube w/ a lot more interaction. Just click on the cube to rotate it, select a thumbnail and watch the resources (text/audio/video) come to life.

Give GeoCube a try by clicking here.

A special thank you goes out to Alexandra Fransisco, who reviews this in her excellent blog.

Culture Crossing

Culture Crossing is a site I just learned about from Larry Ferlazzo's blog, and truly a great site for history/geography teachers/students.

CC takes a rather unique spin on your typical mapping site. It gives the user an abundance of information that is otherwise hard to get to. For example, if you want to find out what kind of clothes students wear in Japan, or what their school hours typically are, CC is where you would look. What makes this so great for students are the different facts they can gather by clicking on: Class Rules, Socializing, or Misc.

Below is an example of the Class Rules info from New Zealand.

Culture Crossing is w/out a doubt one of the best sites around to learn about a specific place. Plus, there is a quiz section that students can take to make sure they have learned their country. I would suggest using CC w/ Shmoop for the ultimate historical/geographical experience.
