Insert Learning

Insert Learning is a wonderful Chrome extension that turns any web page into a "learning moment".  The way this works is once the extension is added a educator can add different types of items to a page such as questions, sticky notes, discussions, and more.  This makes it a great tool for teachers to assess student's learning and easily differentiate instruction in real-time.

Edji

Edji is an innovative site for annotating texts for collaborative learning that I just found out about from Larry Ferlazzo's blog.  Edji lets users read a online text and then interact w/ it by: highlighting passages, annotate w/ text, images, or emojis, and, more.  Educators can then view a "heat map" which shows highlighting being done in real-time that helps them differentiate instruction and assess student's understanding.

Below is a brief demo...

Owl Eyes

Owl Eyes is an innovative site that lets teachers create "classrooms" where their students can read and interact w/ texts.  Student's are able to select through a wide variety of literature and then annotate the text.  This is helpful as they can take notes and pickup right where they left off when reading.  Best of all, the teacher tools allows educators to create quizzes to assess how students are doing and they can even track/manage their student accounts.  Educators are using Owl Eyes in a number of different ways such as: differentiating instruction or flipping a classroom.

For back to school, Owl Eyes have added more texts, created a more user friendly interface, and added more resources for educators.

Finally, they are giving away 10 free 60-minute lessons for those teachers that sign up by the end of August.

Roohit

Roohit is an excellent site for highlight/annotating things on the web. What makes it so great? The ability to turn any site into your own highlighter/cliff notes simply by typing http://roohit.com/site before any URL that you want to take notes on.

Also, once you have highlighted your text you have the ability, to save the notes for you, create an embed code for your site, and even make active links w/ a button. These options alone make it a must have for users who like to "highlight" the web!!!

For another great review, check out Larry Ferlazzo's blog.
