Written Realms

Written Realms is an innovative site for finding and creating choose-your-own-adventure style stories.  This is done in a very fun RPG type adventure four different classes to choose w/ multiplayer options as well.  Written Realms reminds me of a "suped" up version of Zork where a user can fight monsters, gain skills, and advance levels.

Back to School with Elementari

Elementari is a wonderful new site for digital storytelling and project based learning.  Educators are using this easy-to-use tool to have students create interactive digital stories, digital portfolios, presentations, and even choose-your-own-adventures.  Stories can contain, custom made illustrations, sound effects, or even have a user record their very own audio.  Also, a teacher can customize an already created project as a template to help integrate into their own classroom.  Best of all, the educational portal allows for educators to create student accounts and approve all stories before being published "(ideal for COPPA/CIPA compliance).

Back to School updates:
New Classroom Features
  • Classroom analytics - Measure how your students engage and learn with Elementari with key metrics such as time spent writing, time spent coding, and the number of characters written day by day.
  • Personalized student feedback -  Provide specific page to page feedback on ongoing stories. Students will be able to review, make changes, and resolve that feedback directly within the authoring tool.
  • Beautiful classroom library - Classroom libraries not only showcase your students' published stories but also include class highlights and class awards. Check it out!

Elementari

*UPDATE - An educational portal has been completed allowing educators to create student accounts (up to 30 for free) and approve all stories before being published!!!

Elementari is a wonderful new site for digital storytelling and project based learning that I just found out about from Larry Ferlarzzo's excellent blog.  Educators are using this easy-to-use tool to have students create interactive digital stories, digital portfolios, presentations, and even choose-your-own-adventures.  Stories can contain, custom made illustrations, sound effects, or even have a user record their very own audio.  Best of all, a teacher can customize an already created project as a template to help integrate into their own classroom.  Finally, a finished story can be embedded into a site/blog to help schools abide by COPPA/CIPA compliance.

Popped

Popped is an interesting new (beta) site for creating a story, screenplay, or choose-your-own-adventure.  The user interface takes a bit of getting used to but is similar to texting/chatting.  However, there is a nice walk-through to help beginners get started.  Finally, users can add chapters and audio to help "liven" up their digital story.

I highly recommend checking out Popped by clicking here!!

Edventure Builder

Edventure Builder is an innovative new site that is perfect for sparking student's creativity by providing a online platform for creating: scavenger hunts, interactive stories, or choose your own adventures.  Also, this is a fantastic tool that educators can use to build mobile lessons, interactive tours (think Back to School night or outside activities), and more.

The way this works is quite simple, from a browser a user can create an adventure (i.e., lesson, hunt, tour, etc) by adding text, images, video, and links.  Then by clicking a button it gets published to any browser based mobile device.  Best of all, are the different features that allows a user to fully customize their adventures and edit, save, and publish them easily.

StoryCraft

StoryCraft is a fun free iOS app that I found out about from the amazing educator, Shelly Terrell.  This is a innovative way for students to collaborate on a story in the familiar "choose-your-own-adventure" style.  Users can create a story w/ text and images and invite other students to add to their story.  It kind of reminds me of poor man's version of BoomWriter w/out all the voting and bells and whistles.

rootbook

rootbook is an interesting site for playing or creating your own Choose-Your-Own adventure books.  A person can browse through created stories/books and play them or register and create their own.  It's not as robust as some other similar type sites (i.e. Playfic) but it seems much easier to use.

Playfic

Playfic is a site I've covered in the past that is ideal for Creative Writing.  This is an innovative site that lets users create text adventure/choose your own adventure games (i.e. Zork).  It uses a programming language called Inform 7, that is rather user-friendly and a user can have created a game in minutes.  This is a great way to spark creativity and help students practice their Writing skills.

Quest

Quest is a innovative site/Windows app for creating text based adventure games (i.e, Zork).  This is a very useful way to teach programming/coding to students as it has a button which will hide/show scripting/programming language (i.e., Dreamweaver).  Also, a user can add images and video to really "spice" up their game.

Dio

Dio is a very cool new (beta) site for creating a interactive environment.  I can see this being used for those interested in programming or game/story development.  It also reminds me a bit of those sites that create choose-your-own adventures such as Inklewriter.  The environment itself is a series of still images that a person can navigate around (Think Myst).  Also, a person can select items to examine (again Myst or 7th Guest) and even collaborate w/ others via a chat window.

Inklewriter

Inklewriter is a wonderful site for creating interactive/choose your own adventure style stories.  This site is free to use and ideal for students to create a story and then share w/ others via a unique URL.  These stories allow for others to create their own path or choose an existing one.  Best of all there is a nice feature for teachers to create student accounts w/ a unique username/password.
