Book Writer is a fantastic iOS app that I've had the opportunity to test out. This app is ideal for digital storytelling and reminds me a bit of Mixbook. What makes this app so great is how easy it is to use and the ability for students to export their digital book into an ebook (to be read in iBooks) or PDF. Also, a user can not only upload text and images but video as well. This is such a great way to integrate technology into a curriculum and being on an iOS device, great for mobile learning!!

Top 10 Sites/Apps for a Flipped Classroom
A "Flipped Classroom" is a classroom that uses class time to do activities/lessons (guided by the teacher) and "homework" time (at home) for guided instruction (usually through video). Basically, it turns a classroom upside down (or on it's head) where the learning of a topic is done at home and then they applied practice or "work" is done at school. With Mobile Learning and BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) becoming more mainstream, "Flipped Classroom" models are happening more and more, leading me to create my list of favorite tools for "flipping a classroom".
For an excellent info-graphic on what a "Flipped Classroom" is click here.

HP Pavilion Laptop
Recently, I had the fortunate opportunity from Staples to review one of their laptops for educational purposes, the HP Pavilion 17-E020US. This was an exciting experience for me using equipment mainly from the Mac world and all their devices.
The HP Pavilion is a very solid piece of equipment and has some nice features that are beneficial to education. I reviewed the 17" laptop which I feel is way to big for the education market. Space is always an issue w/ schools and students need something that is light and easy to carry around. I feel that a smaller version would be more ideal. However, the Pavilion has two unique features such as HP CoolSense and HP ProtectSmart which helps protect the computer bumps/shaking and keeping it cool.
Also, the Pavilion has a excellent built in camera which is fantastic for taking pictures or video and a great way for integrating technology into the curriculum. There are some nice media that comes w/ the laptop such as HP Connected Photo & Music.
In working w/ the Pavilion I tried to compare it to other similar devices for education. The Pavilion is a nice alternative for districts that can't afford the more expensive Macbook. Also, Windows 8 while has a greater learning curve then Apple's iOS, is a solid operating system for touch screen devices. Although, I will say this about Windows 8 it does make multi-tasking a whole lot easier. It seems there are more customization features for Windows 8 then those for iOS. However, that can be a good or bad thing depending on what you're looking to do.
Here are some more specs on the HP Pavilion...
Full disclosure: Staples.com provided me with these products for review. The thoughts and opinions expressed are strictly my own. Feel free to shop their entire line of laptops online.

Gus on the Go
Gus on the Go is a fantastic iOS/Android app for students wanting to learn a language. This is all done through a wide variety of games and exercises such as: matching, bubbles, horse racing and more. All in all there are over 10 fun filled activities that students can do while exploring different maps and unlocking more and more features. Just to give an example I let me 6 and 7 yr old try this app out first and they played it for about an hour before I could even sit down to check it out.

MindMup
MindMup is a new site for brainstorming or mind-mapping that I just found out about from Free Technology 4 Teachers. This is a easy site to use where a user only has to hit return after typing to create a text box. These boxes can be rearranged and ideal for creating brainstorms or mind-maps. One of the best features is the ability to embed a mind-map into a blog or site.

Snap!
Snap! is a site that is ideal for MS/HS learning how to program. The site is a spin-off of Scratch and works very similarly w/ a drag-n-drop interface of "snapping" pieces of blocks together. These blocks are commands and a user can see on the right side of the screen what is happening as they put these blocks together.

Level it Books
Level it Books is the excellent iOS app for educators/parents/librarians for scanning a books ISBN and getting a books Reading/Lexile level. Also, this app allows for educators to keep a digital library of all their classroom books as well as a class roster w/ each students Reading/Lexile level. Finally, this is a fantastic app to have to manually search for books as well as scanning a book before your child begins reading to get an idea of what level the book is at.
