Answerables
Answerables is a wonderful new innovative site/game that is perfect for Game Based Learning (or more accurate Game Based Learning meets Learning Management System). It reminds me of Second Life but geared more toward kids w/ their fantasy/SciFi environment. The game takes place in the 3D virtual world of Answerables on a planet called Proxima, where the native Ansibles (students) encounter an alien race.
What makes this so great for education that is the safe/COPPA compliant environment that Answerables provides. This is an ideal place for students to collaborate w/ others and develop their social learning skills. Answerables provides windows (i.e. Second Life) to view the web, go on quests, etc. The student dashboard allows students to track their quests, notifications, events, PODS (Personal Online Development Spaces), and more.
Educators can create a lesson/POD (manage permissions), create webquests, internet scave
nger hunts, host live events, and best of all "Gamify" their lesson. This is great for introducing a new concept, guided/differentiated instruction, and even "Flipping" a classroom. Also, teachers (parents too) can track/monitor student progress, share and view resources by collaborating w/ other educators, and even setup tutoring courses where they set their own rate.
I highly recommend checking out Answerables by clicking here!!!

FluencyFinder 3.0
FluencyFinder the educational mobile (iOS/Android) app for assessing Reading & Comprehension has just released their biggest and most robust update yet. Before educators need to choose between 1 of 6 passages (1st thru 8th grade) to assess a student's Reading level. This was a bit limit for those that needed to use required reading material or those districts that uses Accelerated Reader, AIMS, etc. However, now educators can create, delete, and upload any Reading/Comprehension passage & questions they want to assess their students with. This makes it a great way to organize Reading lists for a student or class, and assess material relevant to that class. Also, a user can switch between online use and mobile use as their data gets backed up seamlessly between the two.

This is a very fun app and makes it easy for students to create their own stories by selecting a scene to act out, writing a script/story, and then selecting their character/costume, and record live w/ special effects. Once they are done recording a video is posted to the safe site ToonTube.

Teachley: Mt. Multiplis
Teachley: Mt. Multiplis is a fun new free iPad app that helps students w/ their basic multiplication skills. The reason I really love this game is that it takes a different approach to learning Math by avoiding drill a practice and focus on computational thinking as players build bridges w/ their multiplication skills. This is great for Game Based Learning as well as Differentiating Instruction, and has high replay value for students. Also, Teachly is aligned to Common Core Standards.

Ozobot
Ozobot is a new robotic toy that is ideal for STEM and can be programmed. Ideally, it will dray comparisons to the Sphero but is different enough that any school LRC or Science teacher can whip this out for some cool educational demonstrations!!!
Right out of the box Ozobot is a synch to sync up by just placing the little robotic orb on the calibration card. That's it, a person can also calibrate on their mobile device (i.e. Android, iPhone/iPad, etc) by displaying a white image set to 50% brightness and pressing the button on the side. For a cool little light display and to watch the Ozbots (2 in a box) in action place them on the colored "race track" and watch them go and light up to specific colors.
There are also 5 super fun games that can be downloaded for free (OzoPath, OzoDraw, OzoLuck, OzoGroove, and OzoRace. Click here for more information on these games; some are multiplayer & some allows the Ozobots to dance and draw. There are also paper templates that can be printed out that people can use w/ their Ozobots. A person can even draw their own track in colored marker and watch the Ozobot go!!!

Homeroom
Homeroom is a nice free iOS app that lets educators share classroom activities w/ parents in a safe environment. I like to think of it as Instagram for the classroom where teachers can share classroom photos w/ parents in safe portal where only they can see them. Just like Instagram, parents can then favorite and leave comments. This is a nice little easy way to even create digital portfolios too.
