UMU

UMU is a fantastic site and mobile app (iOS/Android) for "self paced learning" and "mobile learning" that I just found out about from the innovative educator Naomi Harm.  UMU can be used in a number of different ways such as: creating quizzes/polls, adding voiceovers to slides, create infographics or live broadcasts, and much much more.  Also, UMU is a excellent way to assess an audience/students and can be used for professional development and blended learning.

iPracticeMath

iPracticeMath is a wonderful FREE (Common Core aligned) site for Math grades K-12.  I like to think of this as the "ultimate" Math resource, as students/educators can find whatever they are looking for, such as: worksheets/printables, interactive problems, detailed problem-walkthroughs, and more.

Also, iPracticeMath covers a wide variety of Math problems.  A user can find Math in all grades/subject areas, from basic Math topics such as addition/subtraction to fractions/decimals/algebra, etc etc.  In the "Math Practice" area students can practice their problems and use the built-in scratch pad as a "blank" sheet of paper (i.e. works on mobile devices too!!!).

iPracticeMath offers a wide variety of worksheets/printables that anybody can use.  It even lets users print out the answers or view them online.  Another nice printable is the quiz generator as well as the "Award" section that lets parents/teachers print out certificates.

Best of all, is the educational portal which allows educators/parents to manage/track student accounts, assign worksheets, activities, or quizzes, and generate reports.  These reports make it easy to assess students and find problem areas making it a vital resource for both school and in home instruction.

Where iPracticeMath really shines are the abundance of features for educators.  For example, an educator can create and customize their very own Math quiz w/ the easy to use wizard.  This lets teachers select quiz type, grade level, topic, number of questions and more.  Once a quiz is completed, iPracticeMath generates detailed reports in-real time that not only saves teachers time, but allows them to assess and differentiate instruction based on a student needs.  Also, reports can be done on worksheets, students, or even leaderboards.  There are even digital certificates that parents/educators can print out to help motivate and encourage students.

Finally, w/ Ten Marks shutting down and school out for Summer, parents can use this to stop summer learning loss or use for online learning and homeschooling.  The Sky is the limit in what iPracticeMath can do for parents, educators, and student's alike.

ClassPulse is a new mobile app (iOS/Android) for assessing students, collaborating, and gaining feedback, that I just found out about from Richard Byrne's amazing blog.  It's an easy-to-use app that lets educators create a class and then have their students join via unique code.  Once the class is created students and teachers can then message each other and collaborate back and forth.  Also, there is a nice polling features that students can vote on.

Quizster

Quizster is a innovative site/app that I just found out about for assessing and grading students work.  All a student has to do is snap a photo of their work and send it via the free mobile (iOS/Android) to their teacher.  The teacher can then annotate, comment, and grade using Quizster and respond instantly to the student.  All information then gets backed up to the cloud and helps decrease the frequency of lost homework.  Best of all, this is a great way to gauge student's learning and differentiate instruction.

Below is a brief demo...

Pear Deck

Pear Deck is a cool educational tool that interacts w/ Google Chrome (extensions) or Google Drive to create interactive quizzes/slides/presentations.  The way this works is an educator creates a dynamic deck/slide w/ or w/out multiple choice questions, then has students join the sessions via their Google in Education domain or Chrome extension.  Then the teacher can ask questions and have students respond to them on their own devices.  This is ideal for Differentiating Instruction and assessing students in real-time.

Spiral

Spiral is a new suite of educational tools for the classroom. Below is a summary of their press release...

"Spiral is a suite of free collaborative classroom tools for 1:1 devices and can be accessed anywhere, anytime with just a browser and internet connection. There are 3 apps - each designed for different types of activities.

Quickfire is great for quizzes, class warm-ups and getting rapid responses from students. The students just need to log in on their personal devices to answer questions or use the canvas feature to annotate or draw their responses.

Discuss works well for encouraging class discussions, collaboration, and engaging the whole class. Teachers can either upload a presentation or make one from scratch before adding questions to generate relevant conversation.

Team Up is best for facilitating group work and getting students to work together. Teachers can assign students to groups, appoint a team leader, and set a problem for each group to solve. The students can then research and contribute their ideas to the team leader, who will assemble the team’s ideas in the form of a presentation. Students can go on to present their ideas on the whiteboard and critique each other’s work.

Finally, Spiral allows you to access your lesson data from your interactions which makes it much easier to carry out formative assessment and monitor student progress accurately!"
