Top 10 Sites for Educational Apps

The wave of the future is here especially for education.  Terms like 21st Century Computing, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device), and Cloud Computing, are mainstream.  The introduction of mobile devices, iPods, netbooks, and more specifically the iPad has brought technology to more students then ever before.  A 1 to 1 environment(1 student per 1 technology device) is not only a possibility but a reality in more school districts then people realize.  W/ all that being said I have decided to create a list of my 10 favorite sites for finding educational apps.

Top 10 Sites for Educational Apps

  1. APPitic - Is a great site w/ over 1300+ reviews done by Apple Distinguished Educators.  These apps have been tested in different grade levels w/ different instructional strategies.
  2. Mind Leap - Mind Leap is an excellent site w/ reviews built on a 5 star scale.  Reviews are done on a wide range of subjects and offers a nice breakdown of statistics such as: educational quality, engagement factor, and shelf life.
  3. Best Kids Apps - Is a site w/ great reviews on iPhone, iPad, and Android apps.  These reviews have a basic age rating and a nice image to go along too.
  4. Mac App Store - Probably the most comprehensive list of apps around.  This application from Apple is the ideal place to find and purchase apps.  FYI, works on Snow Leopard OS and above.
  5. Fun Educational Apps -  A ideal place to find reviews of apps for the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.  This is one of my favorite sites to find in depth reviews w/ lots of pictures of the app.
  6. Smart Apps for Kids - Is a site designed by a dad on a journey to find the best iPhone & iPad apps.  These apps are reviewed on a 4 star scale and offer a nice "bottom line" for those who don't want to read the whole review.
  7. Best Apps for Kids - A wonderful site that does a great breakdown of an educational app.  These reviews are done on a scale of 1 - 5, and offers the reader advice on wether they should purchase the app or not.
  8. Teachers with Apps - A great site w/ reviews of apps that include videos and images.  Ideal for teachers looking to find that perfect app for the classroom.
  9. Apps in Education - A nice collection of iPad apps that are reviewed by subject.  These reviews are brief and to the point.
  10. I Education Apps Review - Is a site designed as a community effort of reviews posted by a variety of users.  There are even student reviews to give a unique perspective on the use of an app.
Bonus - Teach with your iPad - Is a wonderful wiki that lists a ton of apps by subject, type, and grade level.  A must see...

    totally missed www.A4cwsn.com ... videos/demos of each app, links to buy them in the app store, with proceeds going to help buy iPads for children with disabilities whose families can't afford them, and much more ... check it out!

    Thank you for the resources. I also really enjoy and appreciate SNapps4kids which has wonderful app. resources for special education students. Although many, if not most, are great for typical kids as well.

    Appitic is a great site; many students enjoy learning on an ipad and these programs are very helpful.

    As what they say, technology can be a good thing when the balance is right. But sad to say, technology addiction is very common among children thus guidance is very important. I’d like to suggest this great app that my girl has been using for a month now that helped her improved her language.

    The app is best for children aged under 5 who have not yet started going to school but would benefit greatly from early literacy, hence this application can be rightly said as a preschool teacher. top educational apps
